Vacant Committee Positions Final Call, issued 19th November |
Hi Everyone, Hopefully everyone is keeping well and for those folks who are joining us at the end of season party I look forward to catching up this evening…! Further to the recent comms note, this is a final call to anybody who is interested in becoming part of the Iceni Committee Team, we have a number of vacancies’ coming up at the end of this year and would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to know a bit more about what is involved. We have had a good response to date and would like to expand the invitation to any more members who might be tempted… we also have a couple of other roles we would like to put forward… The vacant Iceni Chapter Officer roles are: – Editor Photographer Historian Social Media If you feel you would like to express interest in applying for any of these or would like to know a bit more about what is involved, please either drop me an email or call for a chat. We will be closing the applications off on Thursday 24th November. It would be acceptable for the roles to be fulfilled by more than one person and joint applications would be welcomed should you wish to join forces with somebody else. The selection process will be a transparent, democratic based process which selects people who offer best match and compliment the respective job role requirements. The applications will be reviewed by myself, Keith Foster and Garry Knowles. It is hoped that we will be in a position to confirm the new committee appointments before our December Chapter AGM meeting, with the new team formally taking up office following the AGM. We will be ensuring that the new committee will maintain the high standards we have come to expect in our Chapter. Therefore, it is important that all members have the opportunity to apply for posts in which they feel their personal qualities can make a difference. This is not an exercise to find who can write the best application but rather, to find the ‘best fit’. If you have any questions, qualms or observations, please call me. Thank you in anticipation for your interest and most importantly for your participation as a valued active member of Iceni Chapter HOG. Ride safe & best regards. Committee Vacancies, Issued 4th November |
Vacant Committee Positions – November 2022 Prior to the Chapter AGM we have invited the current chapter officers to indicate whether they wish to retain their current officer positions for another year or stand down. To this end, having now concluded the initial part of the exercise, we have some vacancies which we would like to offer to Iceni Chapter members to review and consider applying for. Please see the attached documents for the open job roles. If you feel you would like to express interest in applying for any of these, please read carefully the job description in order to understand what is required. It would be acceptable for the roles to be fulfilled by more than one person and joint applications would be welcomed should you wish to join forces with somebody else. Given the nature of the proposed changes, the current committee members who intend staying on the committee are happy to retain their current positions but are also willing to step aside if new candidates are considered appropriate. This situation would allow current officers to apply for alternative roles. Having reviewed the job roles, should you wish to apply, please send me an email outlining your skills, any ideas you might have and reasons as to why you feel you could successfully carry out the respective role. We are aiming to establish a committee which will at minimum, maintain the high standards we have come to expect in our Chapter. I look forward to receiving your email applications. Ride safe & best regards Ross St Quintin Director Iceni Chapter HOG #£7822 07802 800180

Safety Courses As part of the ongoing training for the Iceni Chapter we would like to run both a first aid course and a biker down course during the riding off season on a Saturday, to make this possible we need to gauge the interest in these courses, to do that we need you all to say YES/ NO I’m interested/not interested in a first aid course or YES/NO I’m interested/not interested in a biker down course, many thanks. Dates will be confirmed once we have interested numbers. First Aid Course The course is open to all Iceni Chapter members. Course will most likely be held at Route 11 Kitchen Norwich Bound Carriageway A11 Attleborough NR17 2PU. We are also proud to welcome our very own Iceni Chapter member, Ken Aldridge, to provide the course training. Ken is a Formally Qualified Paramedic Training Instructor and has delivered training to a wide range of delegates from many front-line service channels including NHS and Military personnel… So, we’re in good hands! The course fee is approx. £25.00 to be confirmed The course fee covers the issue of a formal First Aid certificate and also covers the provision of refreshments and lunch on the day. Ken advises the course should take us most of the day to approximately 4.30pm with comfort and lunch breaks. (times to be confirmed) The course provides all successful participants with a formal ‘First Aid in the Workplace’ certification, although the course has a focus on road traffic and motorcycle incidents. Biker Down Course The course is open to all Iceni Chapter members. The course is at the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service Bowthorpe Training and Development Centre, Barnard Road Bowthorpe, Norwich NR5 9JB The training school is located further along the Barnard Road, Bowthorpe Industrial Estate from The Namco Bowling Alley, for those who are familiar with Namco. There is plenty of on site parking. We don’t need to bring along anything other than an ‘open mind’ ready for learning some techniques for:-
All sounds so simple… when at the scene of an incident, it isn’t easy ! I am absolutely confident that everyone will benefit from joining in this very worthwhile training session ! It is a free to attend course and Barry is insistent that there is no fee, however we are welcome to make a contribution towards the Fire and Rescue charities on the day. Once again, we need an answer yes or no to both courses so we can gauge interest on the viability of running these courses. Please reply to michael.oxborough@hotmail.co.uk |

Iceni eComms Ukraine Special, issued 26th June |
There seems to be no let-up in the ongoing agony in Ukraine. A Facebook video posted by the Kyiv HOG Chapter gives a moving chronicle of some of the destruction that has taken place over the last few weeks. The latest reports from the BBC say that over 13 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine. That’s 13,000,000. That’s twice the population of the whole of Ireland, 14 times the population of Norfolk or 145 full Wembley Stadiums. Poland has willingly opened their border to their neighbours fleeing war and violence and have welcomed over 1,190,000 refugees: a quarter of a million more people than the population of Norfolk. The UK and Ireland HOG community are doing their bit, a fact not missed by the motorcycling press when The Motorcycle News reported on the superb efforts of several HOG chapters in gathering and moving lorry loads of aid to Ukraine. Iceni HOG have also been doing their bit and a van full of donations has been handed over for transport to the Ukraine/Poland border. But we need to do more! We are in contact with a local organisation Norfolk Supporting Ukraine (norfolksupportingukraine.org), who arrange transport for donations on lorries that would normally return to Poland empty. We need to see if we can help fill them. The situation at the border and the needs of the Ukrainian refugees is constantly changing so check here to see what is required before you make your donation. Ross has a collection point where we can gather our contributions before handing them over to Norfolk Supporting Ukraine. Contact Ross on 07802 800180 to make arrangements for collection/delivery of your donation. Please don’t take your donation to the dealership on Ber Street as they just don’t have anywhere to hold it. It appears that this devastating war is not going to be a short-term thing, so there will probably be an ongoing need for help and the help needed will probably change over time. We will keep you informed. So, let’s get donating! |

Escort Ride for Jack Just to remind everyone, in April we sent a comms message out asking if we could do a ‘prom escort’ for a young guy called Jack on Wednesday 29th June. Jack will ride pillion and we’ll need to take/escort him from his home in Toftwood to Glenn Lodge, Bawburgh. We would need to arrive at Bawburgh at 6:00pm so need to leave Jack’s home at about 5:30pm. Some Iceni have already said they wish to take part but this is definitely a case of ‘the more the merrier’! Please let our Head Road Captain, Andy know by emailing him as soon as possible. His email address is headroadcaptain@icenihog.com. We took part in an escort ride last year led by our neighbours, The Fenlanders and it was good fun (and we went for fish and chips afterwards) and attracted a lot of attention so not to be missed. Ladies Motorcycle Taster Day, 23rd July Had enough of riding pillion? Think you could ride better than the ‘old man’? Or perhaps you’re too embarrassed to be seen on back of his noisy bike and think if you had your own it would look a lot nicer than his? Well, how about having a two-hour taster session to see if you would like to pursue riding your own machine? Jane (ladiesofharley@icenihog.com) has arranged a group taster session at C J Balls under the tutelage of a lady instructor. As things stand it looks as though this will be free but we do need to know numbers. It is basically a ‘have a go’ session, nothing in depth or testing, just to see if you like it. With the possibility of progressing on to do a CBT or more. There are initially 6 places booked for 2:00pm to 4:00pm on 23rd July. Please let Audrey (activities@icenihog.com) know if you fancy having a go as soon as possible. Great Yarmouth Racecourse Ladies Night- Wednesday 13th July 2022 We are looking to arrange a glamorous evening out at Great Yarmouth Racecourse’s hugely popular Ladies Evening, this is a great opportunity to get out of our motorcycle gear, dress up to the nines and have a great night. The racing is followed by a Live DJ Set from Rylan. – https://www.greatyarmouth-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/ladies-evening-ft.-rylan The gates open @ 3.45pm. First race @ 5.45pm, last race 8.50pm. Prices are £23.00 or £30.00 Tickets are likely to sell out for this, so can you please let Audrey (activities@icenihog.com) know asap if you are interested so we can get tickets booked. This is being put out as a LOH event, but of course, in our usual all-inclusive manner, it is open to all – the more the merrier! |

Saturday 14th May and Help for Ukrainian Refugees, Issued 9th may |
14th May, Chapter Meeting, Ride Out and Norwich HD 15th Birthday. It’s all happening Saturday. The monthly Chapter meeting at 12. Come on your bikes as the meeting will be followed by a ride led by Graham out to The Ferry Inn at Horning where we will stop for sustenance and a bit of socializing. All this and it’s Norwich HD’s 15th birthday as well. All in all Ber Street is going to be a busy place. Iceni Help for The Ukrainian Refugees We are all horrified at the plight of the people of Ukraine who have fled their homes to escape the violence of the war. We had a ‘whip round’ at our March Chapter Meeting and in a matter of minutes, raised over £300 for the Red Cross DEC appeal. However, being Iceni, we know we can do more but the question is, how? Well, there has been work going on behind the scenes to decide how we can most effectively give our help. You have probably seen the superb efforts of other Chapters who have taken vans full of essential items over to areas where help is most needed. Our research has found out that donations of essential items are desperately needed by refugees in Poland, but not more people. We can use Iceni generosity far more effectively in Norfolk by ensuring that trucks already heading out to Poland are full to the brim with donations, equipment and other essential items. We have identified a Polish haulage company, which regularly delivers to Norfolk … and then their empty trucks return to Poland. A local initiative has made arrangements that some of these trucks should now return to Poland loaded with essential supplies for the Ukrainian refugees pouring over the Polish border … and we can help. We have checked the legitimacy of this initiative and it is all above board and they are just doing the best they can to help. So, how can we help? Well, there’s lots stuff that is desperately needed, essential items such as food, medical supplies, survival equipment (tents, tools, sleeping bags, warm clothing especially thermals and coats, torches, batteries) food, sanitary products (pads and tampons), toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes) bedding and blankets, essential items needed by the refugees just to make life that little bit more bearable. Donations of boxes, tape, pallets and shrink-wrap are also especially required for packaging. We are probably going to need somewhere to collect and store said ‘stuff’. Being Iceni people, you will come up with a mountain of items that will need to be put somewhere before we can send them on their way. We will need people to load, unload, carry, sort and do all the things needed to get our donations safely onboard the truck and to those who need it. Also, we may need transport to get the mountain from storage to the loading point. So, vans with drivers could be handy. Although aid is required now, this is a disaster that is clearly going to go on for a long time, so we can plan effectively to make sure we make the best contribution to the relief effort that we can. So Iceni, put your best foot forward. Let us know what you can offer, give us some ideas, ask questions, make suggestions. Let’s show what Iceni are made off. Contact Ross (director@icenihog.com) or Martin (communications@icenihog.com) with any response and we can make sure your observations, ideas and offers are collated, passed to the relevant people and dealt with. |

Betty will be leading a ride from the Travel Lodge/Burger King car park at Thickthorn Services. Meet at 6:00 for 6:30 departure. Work up an appetite on the ride as we meander along some of South Norfolk’s most attractive rural roads, park up in the Market Square opposite Mr Chips and indulge yourself in that great British culinary invention. Friday evenings can’t get much better. Day Ride, Sunday 24th April. Paul and Jane will be taking a ride to one of Norfolk’s greatest attractions, Holkham Hall. Meet at Lathams of Potter Heigham car park on the opposite side to the main store at 10.30am for a 11.00am departure. There is a tea stall on site which sells drinks and refreshments. A public toilet is on the opposite side of the road from the tea stall. The route will follow the coastal road from Sea Palling through to Holkham Hall via Walcott, Mundesley, Cromer and Wells with a brief stop at Blue Sky cafe car park for a toilet break. The route is approximately 60 Miles and 2 hours. Roads will be mainly A and B rural type. The parking at Holkham is a pay and display basis so riders will require cash at hand for this and parking may be on the grass so riders will require a stand puk for their bikes. There is a cafeteria on site for refreshments or you can bring your own picnic and enjoy it on the lawn in front on the Hall. Holkham Hall is a 18th century palladium mansion and one of Norfolk’s finest buildings and will be open to the public. Please arrive with full tanks and empty bladders. There is no planned return journey. What is there not to like? All we need is a bit of decent weather and it has the makings of a perfect day. See you there! Lastly, but most importantly in these tough times … … we need some nominations for the charities we want to support this year before our bank balance becomes embarrassing. We all have some cause that we admire, that we think needs more help to carry out their work. Well, just drop an email to Paul, our Treasurer at treasurer@icenihog.com with your nomination and we can then put it to a vote. |
Ride, Ride, Ride! Issued 12th April |
Easter Weekend RidesGOOD FRIDAY – Kick off the Easter weekend with a great ride round the ‘South Norfolk Loop’. Gunther will be leading us on B and C roads through Trowse, Stoke Holy Cross, Hempnall, Fritton, The Pulhams, Diss, Garboldisham, East Harling, New Buckenham and a stop for lunch at The Jolly Farmer at Forncett End after about 60 miles. Meet at Norwich HD, Ber St. 10:30 for 11:00 departure. N.B. The dealership will not be open so there will be no toilet facilities available. EASTER MONDAY – Easter Egg run to Sunbeams Play on Gapton Hall Road, Gt Yarmouth. Harbour Radio will be there covering the event and it is hoped Adrian and Jenny Thompson, the Mayor and Mayoress of Great Yarmouth will be there to greet us as we arrive. So it would be great if we could have lots and lots of Harleys to show the children and The Mayor and Mayoress. Let’s see if we can get ourselves in the local press again. Meet up at The Premier Inn Car Park on Broadland Business Park at 10:00 for 10:30 departure. Paul Welch will take us on a 33 mile meander through the countryside on A and B roads to arrive at Sunbeams at 12:00. To ensure we arrive at the correct time we may stop on Hewett Road if we are running ahead of schedule, so you could join the last few hundred yards of the ride if you are not able to make it to Broadland Business Park but would like to join in at Sunbeams. Oh, and another thing … We have been asked if we could do a ‘prom escort’ for a young guy called Jack on 29th June. That’s a Wednesday and although we don’t know what time yet it’s bound to be in the evening. Jack will ride pillion (assuming someone volunteers to take him) and we’ll need to take/escort him from his home in Toftwood to Glenn Lodge, Bawburgh. Before we commit to it we need a definite ‘yes’ from some of us first. Please let our Head Road Captain, Andy know by emailing him as soon as possible. His email address is headroadcaptain@icenihog.com. We took part in one last year led by our neighbours, The Fenlanders and it was good fun and attracted a lot of attention. |
i2i Training Courses. Issued 8th April |
i2i Courses, 21st and 22nd May There are still spaces available on the above courses. We managed to get a discounted rate especially for Iceni members. Each course costs £135 rather than the full price of £150. What are they about? Well have a look at i2imca.com. The courses we are doing are ‘Machine Control 1’ on the Saturday and ‘Machine Control 2 on the Sunday. Why do them? Well, the Police Motorcyclist I was with on my Bike Safe course said that all the motorcyclists in the Norfolk Constabulary had done the course as part of their training and he raved about it. That’s a good enough recommendation for me. Ask other Iceni members who have done them, and they will all tell you how good they are. So don’t hang about, take advantage of the opportunity to have a great couple of days on your bike at a discounted rate. Contact Mick Oxborough on 07864119915 to secure your place on this fantastic course with other club members. |
