The New Official Iceniors Midweek Rides 2024

The Iceniors Wednesday Rides has been a great success since it was launched. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Cubbo and Jon Taylor and all of the deputies for the hard work they have provided in organising the events over the past few years. The team has now decided to hand over Iceniors organisation.

With immediate effect the Official Iceniors meet-ups and ride outs will be coordinated by Phil Dingle, Les Burr and Brian Lee. There will be a new Whatsapp group set up and if you would like to be part of the new Official Group please make contact with Phil, Les or Brian and they will add you to the Whatsapp Group.

The team will be planning a series of Iceniors rides which will take place on Wednesdays and start from Norwich Harley-Davidson.

The new group will be operating from March 2024 and may arrange a couple of winter lunch meetups and a planning session in January to make sure ride ideas are communicated with everyone involved.

All Iceni members will be welcome to join in along with guests under our normal two rides rule.

The rides will be operated on the same safe practices that we operate for all Iceni RIdes as we really want new members and folks who see us riding to feel safe and respect the group.

If you’re available and wish to join in on Wednesdays get in contact with the Team and get involved….!

Best regards and RIde Safely.

Whoops! issued 8th June

Santa Pod Dragstalgia Vintage Weekend, Sunday 9th July

A couple of corrections to the information about Phil Dingle’s ride to Santa Pod from the email sent out yesterday.

The sharp eyed amongst you will have noticed that the email said the ride would set off from “Aylsham Starbucks on the A11”. That is of course, not correct. Aylsham is nowhere near the A11 and, so far as I am aware doesn’t have a Starbucks.  Aylsham should read Attleborough.

Secondly the contact telephone number for Phil is incorrect.  The correct number is 07711458729.

A great year so far, can it get better? You bet! issued 7th June

On Sunday we will meet up with the Lindum Colonia crew at the Mercure Hotel, for a 10:00 departure, heading to Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.  After lunch we will head back across country to Kings Lynn via a comfort stop at Thickthorn Services.

Police Safe Rider Course, 13th, and 15th July

There is one space left for this great course. Following a classroom session, you will have an excellent day riding with the guys who know their stuff, Norfolk Police Motorcyclists. Many Iceni have done this course and not one has anything less than the highest of praise. Andy Micklethwaite (the County Council’s Road Safety Skills Improvement Officer) has arranged a course with Norfolk Police, just for us. The classroom session will be taking place at the Police Training Centre in Hethersett on Thursday 13th July and the day out on the road with the Police riders will be on Saturday 15th July. There are twelve places available.  It will be the best £50 you’ll spend this year. Our Safety Officer, Graham at safety@icenihog.com will coordinate admission to the course, so get emailing. Don’t worry about small number plates and noisy exhausts, they are only interested in you and your safety as a fellow rider.

Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride

Iceni and Lind hosted a remarkable Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride from Ber Street HD on Sunday 20th. There were many handshakes, thanks and congratulations from non-Harley participants who appreciated the organised way in which the ride was conducted.  A fundraising target of £3000 was set … and the figure raised so far stands at £19,545.00!?!? Now wouldn’t it be brilliant if we could reach £20,000?  Well, we can.  Donations to this year’s event can still be made up to Sunday 4th June. So, stop the kids’ pocket money for a week, pay the council tax next month and don’t buy that daily Costa for a couple of days and put the cash into the DGR.  You can sponsor a particular rider, or you can just donate to the ride at this link here https://www.gentlemansride.com/rides/england/norwich.  I will guarantee that everyone reading this will be affected by or know a loved one who will/has/is suffering from what the DGR is fighting … prostate cancer and men’s mental health problems.

Police Safe Rider Course, 13th, and 15th July

These courses fill up fast because their reputation is so good, so we are really lucky to have been able to get a course arranged exclusively for Iceni HOG members.  It really is an opportunity not to be missed.  Following a classroom session, have an excellent day riding with the guys who know their stuff, Norfolk Police Motorcyclists. Many Iceni have done this course and not one has anything less than the highest of praise. Andy Micklethwaite (the County Council’s Road Safety Skills Improvement Officer) has arranged a course with Norfolk Police, just for us, so it would be rude not to fill it and daft to turn the chance down. The classroom session will be taking place at the Police Training Centre in Hethersett on Thursday 13th July and the day out on the road with the Police riders will be on Saturday 15th July. Iceni Flickr Account

A strong social media presence is becoming more and more important in publicising what we do and attracting new members etc. Dabbling a bit on Facebook just doesn’t cut it anymore, a dynamic Instagram account with a fast turnover of material is the way to go and there are stats showing that our Social Media Officers, Greg and Satri are increasing our ‘reach’ by several hundred per cent and thousands more people are getting to know who we are, what we do and what they could be missing out on. It’s great that we are getting to show more and more people what a great Chapter we are and the great things that we do. However, this social media ‘monster’ needs feeding. We need material that Greg and Satri can use. Flickr is an image and video hosting service where Iceni has put all the photographs you see in the gallery on the Iceni Web Site.  There are some 7000 photographs basically covering the whole history of Iceni. In order that our Social Media Officers, Greg and Satri can have access to as much material as possible it has been decided to give access to the Flickr account to all members so you can upload your photos and videos. They will automatically upload to the Iceni website as well (the Flickr account ‘feeds’ through to the website gallery).

The username is icenihog@yahoo.com and the password is plusnewevent15

The account will be policed and unsuitable material removed asap.

If you want more information on how to use the site, contact me and I will gladly give what help I can.

Police Safe Rider Course, 13th and 15th July

Following a classroom session, have an excellent day riding with the guys who know their stuff, Norfolk Police Motorcyclists. Many Iceni have done this course and not one has anything less than the highest of praise. Andy Micklethwaite (the County Council’s Road Safety Skills Improvement Officer) has managed to arrange a course with Norfolk Police, just for us, so it would be rude not to fill it and daft to turn the chance down.

Charity Nominations

It is time for the Chapter to choose the charities it wishes to support this year. If you wish to nominate a particular charity please let our Charities Officer, Paul know by email which charity you wish to support and what it is the charity does. Paul will need to know by 30th April, so that a ballot can be arranged for us all to vote for our preferred charity. Paul can be emailed on treasurer@icenighog.com.

Cirencester Rally Reminder

We are lucky to have some rooms reserved for Iceni members, however if the deposit isn’t paid by the end of the month then you will lose your reservation and your room will be open for booking by someone else.  So if you haven’t paid your deposit please do so asap.  You should have received an email telling you how to do this.

Easter Eggs

It is coming up to that time of year again (Huh! It was only Christmas a couple of weeks ago.) We need easter eggs to take to the children at Sunbeams Play.  If you want to buy some easter eggs please leave them at the dealership and arrangements will be made to move them to Sunbeams when we ride over to give them to the children (one of the best rides of the year).  Don’t buy big fancy eggs.  To ensure each child gets a ‘fair share’, buy normal medium sized eggs.  You know the sort, three for a tenner at the supermarket.

Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride

If you haven’t heard of this annual event, well it’s an annual ride that takes place across the whole planet to raise money to support men’s health charities.  Participants dress up in classic garb as ladies and gentlemen and ride classic style bikes. It was great to see so many current and new members at the dealership last Saturday, signing up for the coming year.

Iceni membership at £20 for a single membership or £30 for a couple is one of the best value for money deals you’re gonna find anywhere and the annual subs are due now. Ride Down to Cirencester Rally and Trip to Bletchley Park, 17th August

Some of us who went down to Cirencester last year, stopped off for an overnight stay at the Carrington Arms kindly arranged by Sue and Martyn Kyson. This broke up the trip nicely and we had chilled out evening in excellent surroundings before carrying on to the rally the following day.  Well, Sue and Martyn have managed to reserve rooms for us at the Carrington Arms again this year.

15 rooms are reserved and 6 have been taken up, so 9 rooms are still available at the moment.  There are two rooms available at £104 including breakfast and the others range from £95 > £105 without breakfast. Rooms will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Sue and Martyn are not actually going to the rally on Friday 18th August,  they will be leading a ride to Bletchley Park (www.tnmoc.org) where all this computer malarkey first started and real history was made.  Rally goers will make their way to Cirencester.

The trip to the Carrington Arms is about 104 miles.

Can you let Sue and Martyn know if you would like to book a room at the Carrington Arms asap as we would like to finalise numbers as quickly as possible, so any rooms we don’t need can be released for other guests to book.

Sherwood Rally – (5th to 7th May) The Sherwood Rally now falls on the weekend of the King’s Coronation, and Monday 8th May has been declared a public holiday, should you wish to stay at Woodland Waters for an additional night (Sunday) please call them direct on 01400 230888 stating the lead name and the Lodge/room number and they will be able to tell you how much and take your booking. Please be aware, there will no rally activities taking place, it will be another day away to chill and relax before returning home.

Cirencester – (18th to 20th August) Bookings are being taken and tickets have gone fast.  Fortunately, Iceni have managed to secure some rooms but unfortunately, all that’s left are 18 single rooms. A couple can book two single rooms for the same price as a double and Eileen (Hogsback Activities Officer) has assured us that couples will be next door to each other. Single person on their own £188, Couple £315, both prices include rally, accommodation, and food. Contact Eileen Ostinelli at eileen.ostinelli@hogsbackchapter.org to reserve your room/s Please make Eileen aware that you are Iceni when booking. It’s planned there will be a group ride leaving on Thursday 17th and stopping overnight on the way there, more details on that nearer the time.

Cider Rally – (28th April to 1st May) If you are going to The Cider Rally and fancy making a bit of a tour of it, Sue and Martyn Kyson invite you to accompany them as they wend their way to Sand Bay. They will be leaving Thickthorn at 08:00 on Wednesday 26th April for the 265-mile ride to Portland Bill. Stopping at Birchanger Services and Fleet services for fuel/comfort break, arrival time at the Heights Hotel should be around 15:00.

The hotel is elevated and looks right along Chesil Beach (https://heightshotel.com/). Food is a bit pricey here but is very good. The next day you can choose to explore places such as Durdle Door and Lulworh Cove among others, or you can ride with Sue and Martyn to Monkey World or Bovington Tank Museum.

On Friday you will leave for the Cider Rally after breakfast.  Last year Sue and Martyn did a fantastic sweeping route taking in some great scenery and stopping at places like Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (think Hovis ad) then on to The Cider Rally near Weston-Super-Mare. The ride home will be via the Midlands with suitable fuel stops/comfort breaks. It is estimated that the trip (excluding rally rides) will be about 700 miles in total. If enough people commit to going, it may be that Sue and Martyn can negotiate a reduced rate for the hotel.  For more information contact Martyn at martynkyson@me.com.

Iceni Times … an apology

I owe our now ex-editor, Colin and members who are not on FaceBook an apology.  I forgot to email out Colin’s last edition of The Iceni Times.  Sorry.

However, it is quite apposite that it should come to you today.  Today is ‘Blue Monday’, recognised as being the most miserable day of the year. So, what better to lift the gloom and put a smile on your face than another excellent edition of Colin’s publication. (I presume whoever named the third Monday of January, Blue Monday doesn’t ride a Harley).
