Santa Pod Dragstalgia Vintage Weekend, Sunday 9th July A couple of corrections to the information about Phil Dingle’s ride to Santa Pod from the email sent out yesterday. The sharp eyed amongst you will have noticed that the email said the ride would set off from “Aylsham Starbucks on the A11”. That is of course, not correct. Aylsham is nowhere near the A11 and, so far as I am aware doesn’t have a Starbucks. Aylsham should read Attleborough. Secondly the contact telephone number for Phil is incorrect. The correct number is 07711458729. |

Police Safe Rider Course, 13th, and 15th July There is one space left for this great course. Following a classroom session, you will have an excellent day riding with the guys who know their stuff, Norfolk Police Motorcyclists. Many Iceni have done this course and not one has anything less than the highest of praise. Andy Micklethwaite (the County Council’s Road Safety Skills Improvement Officer) has arranged a course with Norfolk Police, just for us. The classroom session will be taking place at the Police Training Centre in Hethersett on Thursday 13th July and the day out on the road with the Police riders will be on Saturday 15th July. Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Iceni and Lind hosted a remarkable Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride from Ber Street HD on Sunday 20th. There were many handshakes, thanks and congratulations from non-Harley participants who appreciated the organised way in which the ride was conducted. A fundraising target of £3000 was set … and the figure raised so far stands at £19,545.00!?!? Now wouldn’t it be brilliant if we could reach £20,000? Well, we can. Donations to this year’s event can still be made up to Sunday 4th June. So, stop the kids’ pocket money for a week, pay the council tax next month and don’t buy that daily Costa for a couple of days and put the cash into the DGR. You can sponsor a particular rider, or you can just donate to the ride at this link here https://www.gentlemansride.com/rides/england/norwich. I will guarantee that everyone reading this will be affected by or know a loved one who will/has/is suffering from what the DGR is fighting … prostate cancer and men’s mental health problems. |

Activities@Icenihog.com or call / whatsapp 07908 682911 Iceni Flickr Account A strong social media presence is becoming more and more important in publicising what we do and attracting new members etc. Dabbling a bit on Facebook just doesn’t cut it anymore, a dynamic Instagram account with a fast turnover of material is the way to go and there are stats showing that our Social Media Officers, Greg and Satri are increasing our ‘reach’ by several hundred per cent and thousands more people are getting to know who we are, what we do and what they could be missing out on. It’s great that we are getting to show more and more people what a great Chapter we are and the great things that we do. However, this social media ‘monster’ needs feeding. We need material that Greg and Satri can use. Flickr is an image and video hosting service where Iceni has put all the photographs you see in the gallery on the Iceni Web Site. There are some 7000 photographs basically covering the whole history of Iceni. Lots of Good Reasons To Ride Your Bike, issued 25th April |
Rally News The rally season kicks off this weekend with the Cider Rally. It’ll be an early start on Friday morning with a 7:30 meet ready for a 7:45 departure from Thickthorn … and talking of rallies, don’t forget this one. It’s cheap, it’s just ‘down the road’ and has been put together by several Chapters, so should be a good one. URGENT – CALLING ALL MEMBERS Don’t forget the Summer party night at the Mercure Hotel on Saturday evening 10th June. Come and join us for a memorable night following a ride with our friends and neighbours, the Lindum Colonia Chapter. Hot BBQ style food, music and dancing and a chance to meet up with another group of Guys and Girls who like to party as much as we do… Unless you’ve already registered your places, get your name on the list for a summer evening of fun, “Iceni Style”…. We’ve booked the DJ and a BBQ style hot fork buffet at £25 per head. Plenty of selection on mains, sides & desserts to suit all tastes. If you would like to stay over, give Gill at the Mercure a call on 01603 294330 and tell her you’re with the Iceni Party to secure your discount rate room and breakfast. We will be meeting and riding from the Mercure on Sunday morning so it’s worth considering… Please register your places with Audrey soon to not miss out …!! Activities@Icenihog.com or call / whatsapp 07908 682911 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, 21st May The plans are coming together for this event and there is still time to register for this event which will be running from Lind Motorcycles Ber Street. So, if you know anyone who rides any other classic style bike, whatever the make, they are as welcome to join in as any Harley rider is. You can register at https://www.gentlemansride.com/. Let’s see if we can get 200 bikes registered. Police Safe Rider Course, 13th and 15th July Following a classroom session, have an excellent day riding with the guys who know their stuff, Norfolk Police Motorcyclists. Many Iceni have done this course and not one has anything less than the highest of praise. Andy Micklethwaite (the County Council’s Road Safety Skills Improvement Officer) has managed to arrange a course with Norfolk Police, just for us, so it would be rude not to fill it and daft to turn the chance down. The classroom session will be taking place at the Police Training Centre in Hethersett on Thursday 13th July and the day out on the road with the Police riders will be on Saturday 15th July. There are twelve places available. It will be the best £50 you’ll spend this year. Our Safety Officer, Graham at safety@icenihog.com will coordinate admission to the course, so get emailing. Poker Run Just a ‘heads up’ that there will be a poker run from Newmarket to Ber Street on 27th May. More details to follow. |

Should any other RC’s be available to support our midweek rides please let me know. We are really looking forward to having another great year of riding so no matter where or the distance, we will try and have something for everyone! Looking forward to riding with you. Ride Safe. Ride Down to Cirencester Rally and Trip to Bletchley Park, 17th August Some of us who went down to Cirencester last year, stopped off for an overnight stay at the Carrington Arms kindly arranged by Sue and Martyn Kyson. This broke up the trip nicely and we had chilled out evening in excellent surroundings before carrying on to the rally the following day. Well, Sue and Martyn have managed to reserve rooms for us at the Carrington Arms again this year. 15 rooms are reserved and 6 have been taken up, so 9 rooms are still available at the moment. There are two rooms available at £104 including breakfast and the others range from £95 > £105 without breakfast. Rooms will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Sue and Martyn are not actually going to the rally on Friday 18th August, they will be leading a ride to Bletchley Park (www.tnmoc.org) where all this computer malarkey first started and real history was made. Rally goers will make their way to Cirencester. The trip to the Carrington Arms is about 104 miles. Can you let Sue and Martyn know if you would like to book a room at the Carrington Arms asap as we would like to finalise numbers as quickly as possible, so any rooms we don’t need can be released for other guests to book. Rally Updates, issued 29th January |
Rally News Sherwood Rally – (5th to 7th May) The Sherwood Rally now falls on the weekend of the King’s Coronation, and Monday 8th May has been declared a public holiday, should you wish to stay at Woodland Waters for an additional night (Sunday) please call them direct on 01400 230888 stating the lead name and the Lodge/room number and they will be able to tell you how much and take your booking. Please be aware, there will no rally activities taking place, it will be another day away to chill and relax before returning home. Cirencester – (18th to 20th August) Bookings are being taken and tickets have gone fast. Fortunately, Iceni have managed to secure some rooms but unfortunately, all that’s left are 18 single rooms. A couple can book two single rooms for the same price as a double and Eileen (Hogsback Activities Officer) has assured us that couples will be next door to each other. Single person on their own £188, Couple £315, both prices include rally, accommodation, and food. Contact Eileen Ostinelli at eileen.ostinelli@hogsbackchapter.org to reserve your room/s Please make Eileen aware that you are Iceni when booking. It’s planned there will be a group ride leaving on Thursday 17th and stopping overnight on the way there, more details on that nearer the time. Cider Rally – (28th April to 1st May) If you are going to The Cider Rally and fancy making a bit of a tour of it, Sue and Martyn Kyson invite you to accompany them as they wend their way to Sand Bay. They will be leaving Thickthorn at 08:00 on Wednesday 26th April for the 265-mile ride to Portland Bill. Stopping at Birchanger Services and Fleet services for fuel/comfort break, arrival time at the Heights Hotel should be around 15:00. The hotel is elevated and looks right along Chesil Beach (https://heightshotel.com/). Food is a bit pricey here but is very good. The next day you can choose to explore places such as Durdle Door and Lulworh Cove among others, or you can ride with Sue and Martyn to Monkey World or Bovington Tank Museum. On Friday you will leave for the Cider Rally after breakfast. Last year Sue and Martyn did a fantastic sweeping route taking in some great scenery and stopping at places like Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (think Hovis ad) then on to The Cider Rally near Weston-Super-Mare. The ride home will be via the Midlands with suitable fuel stops/comfort breaks. It is estimated that the trip (excluding rally rides) will be about 700 miles in total. If enough people commit to going, it may be that Sue and Martyn can negotiate a reduced rate for the hotel. For more information contact Martyn at martynkyson@me.com. |

We will visit two to three site per day including Omaha Beach, Pegasus Bridge, The Utah Beach Museum, and various other sites of interest We will be staying in Bayeux for two nights. A rough guide for the cost of two people sharing, food, exhibit tickets and one bike on the ferry should be in the region of £1000.00 per couple. Places are restricted so get back to me by email ASAP. Thanks Phil Dingle Iceni Times … an apology I owe our now ex-editor, Colin and members who are not on FaceBook an apology. I forgot to email out Colin’s last edition of The Iceni Times. Sorry. However, it is quite apposite that it should come to you today. Today is ‘Blue Monday’, recognised as being the most miserable day of the year. So, what better to lift the gloom and put a smile on your face than another excellent edition of Colin’s publication. (I presume whoever named the third Monday of January, Blue Monday doesn’t ride a Harley). |
